okay guys, this might be a stupid question but here it goes. my motor is freshly rebuilt, and ready to start up. the only thing is, im taking to to a shop so they can install my Nistune and tune it for me in about 2 weeks. i dont want the first start up to be at their shop tho cause i want to combat any problems before it gets there so they dont have to do it and charge me for it. can i start my ka-t on all stock fuel system(walbro and nismo fpr) and just let it do nothing more then idle just to make sure everything is tight and working? or will this damage my motor? it seems to me just idleing would be fine but i want to be sure. thanks in advance, TJG

I think you should be ok because when the engine is at idle you are not boosting yet. You can see that the boost gauge is under 0, which means there is vacuum on your intake manifold, so it's behaving like an N/A. Since you have the stock fuel system the mixture is still ok.

It's another story when you rev up and boost builds up.. more air than fuel and kaboom, just to be safe I would not drive it...

when its all said and done i want around 450whp at 25 psi. i wont break it in at that much of course tho, for the first 1000 miles or so im going to have the boost set at 10psi i think.

Sweet.

If you don't mind me asking, how much does building the engine cost you?

I'm currently setting up my KA to run with a T3/T4 setup but with stock internals, so I will keep low boost, but eventually I'd like to build the engine. Was wondering how much $$ I should be setting aside for that...

well that really depends on what parts you use, and how far you wanna go, for me it cost this.

-ams rebuild kit with .020 over pistons about $1200-machine work including, overbore, o-ringed block, head decked, and all parts cleaned and balanced was about $1300

it all really depends on what your shooting for, i was going for a high boost, high reliablity motor. so it has cost alot of money. and thats for just the actual engine internals, when you "build" a motor, normally your shooting for big hp and that translates into big money for fuel and tuning equipment. all in all for my whole engine build im probably into it 6k to 7k

make sure you use stock injectors if your using stock ecu.

**** even driving it around if you stay out of boost will be fine.

Yea your fine as long as you dont get into boost to much. You can drive it, w/e. Heck even retard your dizzy a degree or so if your really paranoid.
