So the other days a friend of mine borrowed my 98 pathy and he ran out of gas (his an idiot) so I went took him.some gas but the truck would just turn on for about 20 sec then die. I would try again give it gas and it will die immediately. So thinking it was the gas filter changed it with no luck at all.

So my question what can I start to look into since it's getting cold and snowy and I don't want to drive my car.

Here's a video I took

It can take a few cycles -- especially with the new filter. The other possibility is the fuel pump may have been damaged (overheated) from the lack of fuel. Most people don't understand that the fuel cools the pump.

I would also suspect fuel pump. Many times when near the end of life they will still deliver fuel but at a significantly reduced rate of flow.

Fuel pump is more than likely the culprit. Try hitting the gas tank a couple times with a rubber mallet. Could work..

You can get a new pump from AutoZone for $61.99 with a lifetime warranty.

Where is the connection to test out the fuel pressure. I can't seem to locate it. Would like to test the pressure before I go and buy one.

Thanks for the input

If you haven't done so already you should check the factory service manual. In general though you should check the fuel pressure from the fuel pressure regulator side. There are two pressure measurements: regulated and unregulated; meaning one is with the FPR connected - the latter without. I don't know the exact pressure measurement specs but I know the regulated level will probably be at least 30psi with unregulated flow at least 10psi above that.
