I recently bought a 2000 i30T that had sat for 2 years and wouldn't start. I know it wasn't the smartest thing to do but it was cheap. The owner had died and left it to her son who just let it sit. He claimed that when he drove it to his house it ran fine before he parked it. I replaced the fuel pump, spark plugs, maf and the car would run okay after you spent 15 min or so with your foot on the pedal to warm it up. The whole time the car would sputter and fight you but after it warmed up it would idle ok at around 950 to 1k rpm which is a bit high. I replaced the iacv after reading about peoples problems with it and bench testing it. The iacv was not throwing up a code. The car now starts every time and will rev freely when you keep your foot on the pedal but it still will not idle when cold. You turn the key it starts easily revs up to about 2500k or so settles down at 1k for 2 seconds and then sputters and dies. I am out of ideas as to what I should change or do next. The car has 203K which is a lot for any car but when its warm it runs decently and has good power. The engine has decent even compression across all cylinders.

Since nobody is coming up with any ideas can anyone give an opinion on whether or not a bad intake manifold gasket could cause my problem?

doubt it's the gasket. have you changed the fuel filter? cel on? after replacing the iacv the idle needs to be adjusted. also the maf you put in might be bad or not connected properly. might also be some disconnected electrical sensor/plug in the engine compartment that you might've missed.

could be.

The bottom line is that either the engine is getting too much fuel (leaky injectors) or not enough (coolant temp sensor, intake air leak, EGR valve stuck open).

i'm pretty sure your "bottom line" is wrong based on the deatils given. check out mrl's post - similar issues with no fuel delivery problems.you can easily check your injectors by unplugging one by one when the car's running to see if that would be the issue.
