starting woes

Ok I am the proud owner of a black s13 redtop. I purchased the vehicle from my friend who did the swap had the car running and everything and then he joins the navy and the car sits for 5 months and then i buy it except it wont start. I am getting fuel compression and air but no spark on any of the cylinders. The ecu is saying code 21 so i suspect the ignitor but if the vehicle ran before it was parked wouldnt the odds of it going bad just sitting there pretty high? I have plenty of experience with the L series engine but not a lot with the sr so any advice is apreciated.
