starting switch

my 89' 240sx has trouble starting unless i tap on the starting solenoid a few times while turning the ignition. is this definately a solenoid problem or could the problem be with the starter itself? is there a way to test the solenoid? starter? i have already pulled out the solenoid.

Usually the solonoid comes as part of the starter assembly. But yes typically its poor contacts in the solonoid.
