Hi this is my first post so please bear with me. I have a 92 240sx convertible (black/black) automatic - CA car.

I been having this strange starting problem. Some times the car will start fine, other times all your hear is a click from the starter. I can do several clicks then the sometimes the car will crank very slowly and start, while other times it won't start at all (just click click). In those cases, jumping the car provides enough juce that the starter will turn and start the car up.

Things I have done with this condition still present is a new starter and a new battery - fully charged.

I have started the car, removed the hot wire (+) from the battery and the car runs fine so I assume that is a good alternator test?

What else do I need to look at? I was wondering if the neutral safety switch is a suspect and needs replaceing? Could I have a grounding problem?

Thanks in advance for the help!

You could check your neutral safety switch and wires to it. but if it was your neutral safety switch, it wouldnt start even with a jump.

I had the same problem.. I replaced battery - same thing. Replaced starter, worked fine, but now I think it might be my ignition switch, I turn it over and get all the clicks and clacks but the engine will not crank right away sometimes, I have to play with it for like a minute or two.. meanwhile im in a parking lot and everytime I turn it my fog lights are flash on and off..

So I just sit there and wave and say my name is corky.

Thanks for the reply. Never thought about the Ignition key lock. Will have the mechanic take a look at it.

Thanks!
