99 Maxima Cranks and Cranks. Sometimes it starts. Guys this forum has kept my Max running for 10 years, and I am thankful. But this new problem has me stumped. I have searched and read for days and now have to ask for some help. Here's a list of what's been done so far.

1) New Battery and Starter. 2) Removed and cleaned all Battery connections and grounds. Added new ground to transmission bolt. 3) Followed FSM instructions for Fuel pressure and regulator All Checked Good. 4)Followed FSM for Crank position sensors and wiring and visually inspected tone rings on the flywheel and front balancer, no chipping observed. 5) Checked Coil packs and wiring all is good. 6) Changed Ignition switch with a new one. 7) Swapped in a Known good MAF. 8) Tried other keys and the problem is the same. 9) Took one coil pack and old spark plug grounded to engine while helper turned engine over. No spark and after several tries when spark is observed engine starts immediately. It just isn't getting the signal to the coil packs regularly.
Is there something im missing? Maybe ECU? or Ignition Key Switch?
When the car starts it runs fine. Only code has been P1335 and P1336. I have another Maxima and have taken any suspect parts one at a time and put in that car to eliminate a bad part. Of course my other Max starts perfectly with these parts in. I would like to keep it running a while longer. Thanks in advance.

I'm no expert (wait for NutriaforBreakfast to comment - he is an expert) but I am fairly certain a failing crankshaft or camshaft position sensor will have those kinds of symptoms.
The other possibility is the immobilizer.

OMG I am not an expert!'
It does sound like you did your homework
Check and see if the harness to the coil pack is providing 12v to the coil
Also check your condenser
on a 95 there is information in the EC section on page 122
You can check the resistance of the condenser to see if the part is ok
Maybe this helps and is a starting point

Thanks for the replies.

I have checked a couple of the connectors to the coils and they had 12.6 volts. I will check the rest to verify.

The condenser may be suspect? when I checked it. There was a very short reading once then nothing.

Now the engine has started fairly regularly. Not like it should but a little better. And is showing codes of MAF and MAP. And the other codes are gone? That's frustrating! oh well looks like trial and error.

Again thanks.

Update. sorry for the late posting, have been very busy at work. I have thrown a few parts at my hard starting issue. 6 oem coil packs. Fuel pressure regulator and a coolant temp sensor. with no difference yet.
However by accident when my helper was trying to start the engine, they let off the key really fast. and the engine sputtered a little. we tried this again and the engine started! It now will start this way every time. if we barely engage the starter motor and let off the key from start to on. i'm not sure what to do next? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

try cleaning the throttle body-maybe too much carbon keeps the butterfly sticking
