Starting Problems

I have 1990 240sx with KA24e and M/T. Sometimes it will not start without me holding the throttle about half way open. Other times it will start without me doing a thing, but will usually want to die if I don't give it a little gas for a few seconds.

I was looking under the hood for anything obvious and I noticed the tube connected directly to the front of the TB has cracks in it; could this be the problem?

that is a cheap and easy fix. it is possible because it would cause a loss in vacuum. just fix it for a few bucks and see. if not you didn't lose to much and fixed a problem anyway.

I replaced the rubber hose in front of the throttle body and things where better for a little while, but then the problem starting reacquiring.

If you guys can give me some ideas of what to try next I would appreciate it.
