im a noob here but this is my problem. i have a 98 se maxima. Im having a starting problem. thats been driving me crazy for the past 7 months. it takes 3- 20 cranks of the ignition to start the car. a budy showed me a way to take less cranks by turning the key to the second click for 15sec befor trying to start the car. some times it works some times it dosent. ive replaced the fuel injectors, the spark plugs, the knock senseor, the starter and the fuel filter. ive taken the coil packs out and looked at them they looked fine. I thought it might be the fuel pump but my friend said if it was that then it would not have lasted this long fuel pumps work or they dont. when the car does start up it their is no problems every thing is fine. can any one help? thanks

get the battery tested at a parts store for cold cranking amps. if that comes back alright bring in the starter to test if the solenoid is good - might want to regrease it too.

I got the batter tested the other night it was fine just needed to be charged, i dont think thats the problem because ive used three different batteries in it and still have the same problem. I also dont think its the starter because ive tried 4 different starters including the oem starter witch the nissan dealer said i needed but wanter almost 500$ to put in.

do you have a 10 or 11 tooth starter? 11 tooth ones start faster.

Sounds to me like the fuel pressure is leaking down. I'd suggest a fuel pressure test. Hook the gauge up and then run the car for a few seconds. After cutting the car off watch the gauge to see how fast it drops. It should pretty much hold still or drop slowly. If the gauge drops rapidly, I'd say you need a new fuel pressure regulator. Of course that's just what I think. Good luck.

I agree. It sounds like a fuel pressure drop in the line. I had this happen on a 280ZX I had and it had a bad check valve which was letting the fuel pressure drop. It aslo too alot of turns to start it once the fuel pressure dropped off.

Mine does the same when I pump gas and if I drive aggressively. I have already changed the gas cap and the check valve sounds like the direction I need to take. Bad news is --> the check valve is non serviceable on my car. I will just remove the filler hose and check to see if the valve is functioning.
