Ok here is the situation...I turn the key to engage the starter, I let go of the key and the starter still runs but the car won't start. I bought a new starter because I thought I was having starter issues in the past too, so I buy the new starter put it in and it still does the same things. I pulled a fuel line to check for fuel and I have plenty of fuel but I haven't check the spark, and I am not sure how to with it being coil on plug. WTF is going on? Any help would be appreciated. HELP!!

Maybe you lost a tooth on the flywheel and the starter is just spinning not biting into it?Try removing starting again and move the flywheel a notch or two....

I agree, the most likely culprit is the flywheel with missing teeth.

The flywheel is moving, the crank is moving the belts are moving.

I think it is the ignition switch and lock. When starting the car occasionaly the bendix would not retract and the starter would still be engaged after running. If I shut the car off restarted it, usually that resolved the problem. The other day I went to start the car it did the same thing with the starter sticking only this time after turning it off and on again, it would only crank and never fire. I replaced the starter think that was the gremlin I was dealing with, after installing the new starter I went to fire it up and the same thing, crank crank crank no start! Then I noticed something, I could let go of the key and it would still be running the starter, its like the key won't spring back to the on position. Also, sometimes while driving the car the radio and the heater fan would shut off for no apparent reason, if I would jiggle the key it would come back on. I check for fuel pressure and I have plenty of it, but I don't think I am getting any spark...I gotta believe that since the ignition is engaging the starter and sticking in the start position on the switch and not going back to the "on" position it must be the ignition right? I do not believe it to be the actual electric switch, but it might be a combo of the switch and the lock...any help would be appreciated.

Its ALIVE!!!! It actually ended up being the electric switch...that was the good part...the bad was that no dealer or parts store in Indiana had the part...I had it overnighted from Kansas, installed it last night and it resolved my starting issues.
