Hi guys I have been away for a while but I am back and have a problem. A few months back my car just stopped cranking. I had to roll crank it to get it home. This week I got around to working on it and this has became a nightmare. I bought a new starter because the other was only reading 70 amps. put it on the car and no crank just a click of the starter popping out. Took the starter off and tested it and it works. Put the starter back on and once again click but no crank. Unbolted the starter (connectors still on) ran the neg. jumper cable from the battery post to the housing of the starter and it works therefore, I know that there is no shortage in the car wiring. Bolted everything up and tried to crank just click but no crank. I know you are saying seized motor but motor runs fine. My buddy and I pushed my z out the yard and pushed it down the road I jumped in popped the clutch cranked and drove the car. We let the car sit (idle and running) for 20 mins and when I turned the car off we are back to the click but no crank. What do you think?

What if you leave the starter installed and jump it directly from a battery, what happens then?

Ok update: I tried cranking it with the starter jumped with and additional ground no success. It pops but no turn of flywheel.

Try cleaning connections on the starter. I've seen that keep a car from cranking over before.

So you can hear the starter engage? Or spin but not engage the flywheel?

It engages the flywheel but will not turn it. I took the starter off of the transmission left it connected to the bat and the pigtail grounded it with the negative battery terminal cable turn the key and the starter pops and spins (of course this is under no load). Do you think it is a weak starter they sold me?

my car had the same problem. The starter would click but not start. It ended up being my starter relay in the drivers side fender well

Does anyone have the testing ohms or amps for the relay?

Huh? Did you buy a new starter relay and try it out? And still the same problem appears?

It sounds like the starter is a bum if it's getting full power and a good ground.

I believe the same thing buddy. The starter is too weak to turn the flywheel.

Where'd you get the starter from? If you got it from a parts store like NAPA it could just be a bad one...especially if it's re-manufactured. Try another one and I bet you'll be running :)

Ok I put another new starter in and the problem still persists. Any ideas? Are the any other relays or fuses that would prevent crank?

If you hook a ground directly to the starter, and apply power to the terminal it should turn over correct?

Is this happening?

Try one at a time next, try hooking a ground directly first.

I decided to recheck my wires and the power wire which was advance bought was corroded with a black coat inside the rubber sheet.
