starting problem with 300zx NA, loud scary noise!

My friend was working on his Z this afternoon, replacing the injectors and fpr. After everything was done, we put it together and tried cranking it.

The car started up the 1st time... and then died in 3-4 seconds, seemed like low in fuel. We thought it was normal, and we try cranking it again.. This time, the starter cranked for 2 seconds, and made a really loud noise, sounds like starter was spinning and hitting on something, probably the flywheel and it was scary... we tried a few more times it all ended up the same.. seemed like something seriously not right.

We cant figure out whats wrong.. and he was frustrated after hours of work on it. THis is not his first attempt on replacing the injectors.. and we didnt touch any other thing.. what could it be? Please help Thanks

poke your head under the car and see if the starter is sitting flush against the trans . If so manually turn the crank shaft by the bolt in the main pulley. then try to start it again.
