I have a problem on a 89 Nissan 240SX and I am having a time trying to figure out why it wont start. when it does finally start it acts like it has too much fuel for a short time. After that extra fuel burns off - then Whether your at idle or driving down the road the car runs fine no spit or sputter at all, runs and purrs like a kitten – until you come to a stop and just touch the gas pedal then it dies or stutters like it is going to and if it dies then wont start? The gas pedal can be depressed very slowly and it will stutter for a 1/10 of a sec then continue to run like normal. I hear the electric fuel pump and have sprayed carburetor/injector cleaner into the housing and no luck. Its almost like it is not receiving fire at first? Can you advise what electrical or fuel system related part I need to look for?

what do you mean by housing, like the throtle body?

then use brake cleaner, spray out the MAF sensor, but be careful not to spray the hotwire directly

is there any smoke or anything coming out of you exhaust pipe?

it sounds like a fuel metering problem, in your case, too much, which is what is causing the boging

also, do a full tune up and check your timing, as that could be off

good call. you may also want to wiggle some key connectors like coolant temp, maf, dist, etc. it does sound like a fuel ratio issue. you may need to check some signals at the ecm.

Thanks for the reply – yes i meant the throttle body, sorry-- tune up/timing sounds like the consistent answer, probably need the timing belt replaced soon --I Recently replaced the starter and MAF sensor, after these repairs the car started and ran great -- until now the only way i can get it started is to hold the throttle all the way open and 20 or 30 revolutions then of course if it starts, it sounds flooded. Once the excess gas burns off, it idles the best it has in a long time. i disconnected the MAF sensor and the idle dropped down then replaced the sensor plug and the engine idle back out smooth. I have had a time with several coolant hoses blowing, and just replace the last one, I hope?? my kids were driving the car when it overheated don’t think that has anything to do with this but thought I would throw that in??

bingo, that my friend is flooded. sounds funny too right? if you have a consistent flooding prob, you may have a leaking injector, too low base idle, or something like that.
