I am sure there is a thread somewhere with what I need...but I cant find it. I own a 91 240sx hatchback KA and now it wont start. One day it was going fine, turned off, and roughly 10 min later would not start. In my attempts to fix it I have had the starter checked at the local parts store. It was fine. I have replaced the battery...the old one was questionable. I have tested the clutch switch on the pedal and determined that is not the problem. I have found the relay in the fenderwell behind the pass headlight (blue with 2 leads) and it does click when the key is turned. I was told a clicking relay is working..?

I have checked the voltage on both wires to the starter solenoid. Both are at 11-13 volts and there is continuity. With the key in start I get a strong light on the smaller of the two. I do not know if there is a relay somewhere that isnt working, or if or how to check one. Any advise would be great....I really cant afford to put this car in the shop...but thats why we're here eh?

The weird thing is for a while I could "wiggle" a few wires and it would start. Now it doesnt even do that. I have checked all the connections of the wires I was moving (Battery to Starter, Neg Batt, and lead to solenoid on starter) When I put the new battery in, it started fine twice...then 20-30 min later nuthin...and nuthin since?

the starter relay(blue one with two connectors coming out) is famous for going bad. i have seen many that will click but not work. i would start with that.

Well I have figured it out. It turns out it was the starter....in a way.. the wire that goes from the neg side of solenoid into the starter housing is the culprit. I do not want to open the case though. I have found that if someone holds the key on and I wiggle that wire around it will start. I have checked the end that connects to the solenoid and the wire itself. Both are decent, so it must be where it connects inside the starter itself.

Now for 200.00 I can get a new one...but I would like to know if anyone knows what other vehicles have a starter that will work for it. Or at least what other years. Again it is a 91 240sx and its a standard.

Thanks guys

I remember when replacing a starter that the directions said you had to be careful not to overtighten the nut that holds on the wire b/c it can break the connection on the inside...something like that. Maybe this is what happened to yours?
