Sounds like EXACTLY what my car has been doing. I haven't sourced the problem either but check your grounds and wires. My wires are looking pretty beat up and I'm starting to think that could be the problem.somgaet wrote:I have search all over the forum for an answer or a step in the right direction and just can't seem to find anything related to the problem I am having.
I have a 95 240sx SE w/ an automatic.... I know... lame.
The problem I am having is that it doesn't start every time. Some times I can turn the key and it will start right away, others, I have to try 15 to 20 times. I have changed the ignition switch, the starter and checked the starting relay and all the components are good. The car came with factory security, so I don't know if that may play a role in it not starting. I did notice a cable that goes into the ignition and have no clue what that is.
Anyone have any clue what may the cause of this. I have been dealing with this for almost 2 years and am finally fed up with it enough to get rid of the car. Any help would be greatly appreciate
I can hear the fuel pump come on so I don't think that is the issue. I will be checking it though... Thanks for the suggestions guys. Anyone with more info, please give me some ideas.SilviablhS14 wrote:I would check the fuel pump. I had a neon at one point that was doing this and turned out just to be the fuel pump.
Just my 2 cents worth.
It's not trying to crank at all. When it does decide to work, it cranks normally as it should. Its the oddest thing I have ever had to deal with and it drives me crazy.PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:Is the car cranking over and just not starting? Or is it not cranking over at all?
I tried these things and it didn't change a thing. It seems that it has a mind of it's own...PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:Try shifting the car into neutral next time, letting the car roll a tiny bit, then put it back in park. If it starts, then I still have no clue what it is, but I've seen this work many a time.
Also, jiggle the shift lever when you try to start it.
Does your car have an OEM alarm in it?laxands13 wrote:I have the same problem, but in a manual s13. I'm interested in hearing an answer to this too. I wish i had something to suggest but i dont.
I was thinking about adding that starting button idea, but I just really want to solve this problem....PapaSmurf2k3 wrote:I do not. I bet you could go down to your local shady neighborhood and toss a gangster a 5er and he could tell you. Hell, he could probably rig your car up to a push button and get it to start every time.
