The starter is either (1) not installed correctly (2) not the right starter or (3) not working properly. I imagine they are the same starter auto and manual, but I'm not sure. Instead of asking, why don't you just figure it out yourself. Look up the part # for a manual and the part # for auto, if they are different they're different.

this may sound stuipid but is the battery good. if so sounds like the starter is not put on right. or needs replaced.

thnx guys 4 ur input i'll check out the part #'s. 4 as the battery it has 12volts, but hasnt been charged n a couple of weeks. as far as putting it on right there r 3 holes 2 choose from. the hole that is by its self goes on the top bolt nd the other 2 right next 2 each other, but i can only move the starter enough 2 get a bolt n the first hole. if i try 2 turn it more the starter hit the block.

Just because your battery has 12v doesn’t mean that it is good. The auto parts store can cheek it for you. Or Have a friend try and start the car while you have the volt meter on the battery and see what the voltage drops to. Most cars need about 9.5v if you don’t have that then the battery needs charged or replaced.
