Sorry to start a new thread but I could not find much help searching older ones.

So the wife went for gas and I asked her to fill up a certain amount because I forgot to get a receipt I needed for work. So she gets some gas then starts the truck with the gas cap out and moves to another pump and tops off. All of a sudden I'm getting SES 0171 and 0174 and the truck is very hesitant turning over upon starting. I disconnected the negative battery terminal and cleared the SES codes and they haven't come back but she still doesn't want to turn over easily. Almost sounds like a weak battery.

Any ideas? TIA

Jeez sorry, 2001 QX4

try cleaning the MAF sensor first, you can get a can of the cleaner at an auto parts store like AutoZone.

How old is the battery?

Battery is only a couple of years old. I'll try cleaning the sensor today. What's odd is that the problem happened immediately after the issue at the gas station. As soon as she topped off after staring the truck without the gas cap it did not turn over properly. Too much coincidence there for me.

I was told the gas cap is important. My previous boss had issue with his Lexus RX300 years ago. It was drive able but with some codes (check engine or the like). Dealer found he had a Nissan gas cap after the original cap got lost. He bought the Lexus original cap and the issue was gone.
