I have an 85 nissan 720 2wd. My truck wont start. does not want to turn over. I have power and lights etc... I can pop the clutch to get it running, but as soon as I turn it off It wont start again. Ive tested the starter, battery, alternator, and the ignition switch but still no luck. Any suggestions on any other possibilities? Any info would be appreciated. :wtf2:

I'd be almost certain it is the battery. Just to confirm, try jump starting it or switch with a known good battery.
Does it just crank away and doesn't catch, nor just doesn't do anything when you turn the key?

So pull off the plastic that surrounds the steering column and check the ignition switch.

If that isn't the problem, if it's a manual transmission car, then check the start inhibitor switch on the clutch pedal.

That was one of the first things that I replaced. I also checked all the wiring in that area and even made sure that power is getting to the switch and everything checks out as normal.

its interesting... I have a 720 as well and just had the same issue. As Dave above me said... check those few things first. If not, you could have the same issue I had, and the fix is to rewire your grounding system off of the battery.

So the starter inhibitor switch is connected to the clutch pedal? What signs should I be looking for?

Just check it for continuity when it's closed vs. when it's open, lol

Could the fusible link cause this issue?

Why don't you just check the stuff we told you about, then work on the rest later? You're getting ahead of yourself.

I will check the condition of the fusible link as soon as I am able to. In the mean time do you know if there are any aftermarket shops that sale them or is the dealer my only option?

Wiring is wiring... no need to go to the dealer.

Have you checked for corroded or loose battery or starter connections? If the engine's grounds aren't too healthy it won't start either.
