Starting Issues

94 Maxima SE (VE30DE) 130kIts my gf's car and when its cold it takes about three or four secs of cranking to get the car to start (with the gas pedal depressed also). I read that this could be due to a bad air regulator according to the FSM. But I wanted to see if you gys had any opinions. Oh, and my 240 just developed the same problem recently, not wanting to start when its cold. It has the same symptoms, so I figure they have the same problem.

Other problems is the car smell's real gasy after the start (my 240 doesnt though)
