94 Maxima SE (VE30DE) 130k

Its my gf's car and when its cold it takes about three or four secs of cranking to get the car to start (with the gas pedal depressed also). I read that this could be due to a bad air regulator according to the FSM. But I wanted to see if you gys had any opinions. Oh, and my 240 just developed the same problem recently, not wanting to start when its cold. It has the same symptoms, so I figure they have the same problem.

Other problems is the car smell's real gasy after the start (my 240 doesnt though)

any help is appreciated

According to my Haynes maual, it could be a leaking injector, bad MAF, bad coolant temp sensor, or bad air intake temp sensor. With the strong fuel smell, I would start by checking the injectors.

when it does finally start, does it sort of "chug".. LIke kinda struggle for a second, and then go..

When you said you tired pressing the gas, do you press it down all the way or just partial?

Come on scott, we know haynes are useless .. haynes (hanes) only go on my butt or on my feet, not reading material for nissans

its possible you have a leaking injector pas the O ring...

I have to go off what I've got handy since I don't own one.

The pedal is to the floor and it does kind of chug and then idles up. Sot it could be a bad o-ring then? If the symptoms are the same on both cars, then one or more injectors has a bad o-ring.

I can tell you a changed an bad injector for a new one last fall and then a month later it started this starting problem. So when it warms up I'll have to pull that injector out and check the o-ring.

Could a bad knock have anything to do with this starting issue, because I checked it out and I get no resistence at all.

A bad knock sensor would cause the motor to run poorly, but (to my knowledge) not affect the starting.

Have you checked for stored codes?

yea I got code 34, which I believe is the knock sensor. so for now I just threw a resistor in plug of the knock sensor. I checked the sensor with a multimeter and got no resistance at all. I am going to put up some o-rings and change them out and see if that fixes the starting problem, I just have to go pick them up.

I really believe that is the problem because the car started fine until I put a new one in and pulled one out to make sure that the ones I had were the same.
