Alright guys got a strange problem I can't figure out. Ever since I swapped my new motor in I turn the key to start and nothing happens for a few seconds then it fires up. The car runs fine, no bogging, no smoke, and no other issues. I didn't think much of it till last night. I start the car and nothing happens, so I turn every thing off try again and nothing. Battery had juice everything turns on but nothing happens. Push started the car and drove home and this morning same thing. I searched the forums and replaced the starter relay thinking this was it and same thing nada. Then I replaced the starter with a spare and it starts now. But the same issue, turn the key and nothing happens for a few seconds then it fires up. What am I missing?? I've searched and can't find anything like what's happening.

Info on the car:

Blacktop Sr
New WS engine and lower harness
Battery charging fine
New starter relay
OEM Sr starter

U by any chance have a turbo timer installed.. cause i had the same problem once and it turn out to be the timer
harness that gets plug in between the. Ignition swith and the actuall harness.. it came a bit loose and was not making full contact therefore keeping it feom starting..

Nope, no TT installed. It does start but not right when you turn the key to start, it literally takes a second and then it will crank and start fine. I remember before there was no delay between turning the key to start and the engine cranking.

The contacts on the starter could be failing. Get it tested and report back.

Does it start quickly if you turn the key to ON for a few seconds before cranking?

Maybe a fuel delivery problem?

Actually ya it does. If I pop the key in an go right to start it takes a few. If I leave it on the On position for a moment or two, it starts right up. Maybe fuel pump? I haven't changed the pump since my first Sr back in 04. I still hear it prime every time I turn the key. Think it sounds normal haven't been in many other Sr powered cars.

Yeah, I'd say fuel pump of fuel pressure regulator.

Nope common issues.... It's carbon build up on the contacts of the ignition tumbler.... I fought this issues forever.

^ +1
Went through the same thing, slowly got worse and worse till I had to violently jiggle the keys to get it to start.

Popped in a new ignition switch and it ran fine...

Well not sure if its the cause but yesterday my battery light and brake light were on, so I went to change alternators and found out one of the wires coming off the back of it( 10MM bolt) was toasted. It litterally fell apart in my hand when trying to take it off. I've contacted FRsport and Wiring Specialities about it and im going to ship it back to Yuri to see WTF happened. The plastic boot was on the back of the alternator keeping it from grounding out, so that wasnt the issue. The eyelet was tight and not loose causing it to spark, but about 1/2" to an inch away from the eyelet there is a hole where it looks to have burned through(crispy wire and from my expierence electrical burnt wiring). I know for a fact that it wasnt touching anything to burn from the outside so at this point im leaning to something up with the wiring.

Once i get my replacement harness in this coming Tuesday i'll see if that solves the issue, if not i'll try putting in a new switch.

Thanks guys.
