Ok this is probley a simple fix but I want to see if you guys think its the same thing as me. I have a 2001 pathfinder and it won't start. it seems like the battery is dead but its brand new battery. So i jumped it using my car drove it around for about two miles so because it didn't turn off I am assuming the Alternator is working because the battery is being charged. So i figured imust have just left a light on or somethin that killed the battery. So i parked it and turned it off and tried to turn it back on and nothing at all no lights nothin. Completely dead, and it wasn't even off for more then 3 secs.

I'm thinking a defective battery any other ideas? Its a pos autozone battery so I wouldn't be surprised.

New lead acid battery must, that's must be fully charged before being put into use. Very 1st charge is done at low, not trickle but 2-5 amps until the battery charger indicates full. Then check electrolyte with hydrometer 1.25 S.G. Then recharge at 10 or more amps until charger indicates full. Install on vehicle. For first week take voltage readings to verify your charger (alternator) is good.

Readings
After a full charge, battery isolated---12.5-13.xx VDC
During a cold start---no less than 10 V
Cold fast idle----13.5 or higher
Warm idle---at least 12.5
At 2000 RPM and higher---at 15V no higher

Ok so if I start it up (by jumping it) and then put a volt meter to the battery while the car is warmed up and its lower the 12.5v then that means my alternater is bad??

Other people that I have asked said its most likely the alternator because thats usually the culprate either that or the battery. Thats definitely my next thing to check.

if u had a bad alternator, your car wouldnt be driving around after you jump it. As soon as you take the jumper cables off, the car would start sputtering (not enough power to run the injectors) and then if you try to drive it, it will shut off as soon you hit the turn signal or the brakes or horn, basically anything electrical.

sounds like bad battery to me.

check your ground cable for cracks or broken connections.

check terminals for tightness, bring to any az or aap, parts store and have them run a load test on the battery to check CCA
