i need some advice on my car yesterday without warning i went to start it at the gas station and it doesn't click or turnover or even try to turn over the key goes forward and nothing happens...battery has a full charge...could this be a starter, security chip underneath the wheel or a solenoid i checked the fuses are fine the last time this happened the guy whiped down the chip underneath the wheel and it started right up i tried the same but didn't work but it seems like the same thing is happening no noise or anything to start.....the last time i went to start it before it broke down it started on the first turn and like a sluggish vroooooooum and that was the only thing different with the car all day...is this something i could fix or does this sound like a starter or something electrical like a solenoid....please any help is appreciated. thx oh car is the se version or the 96

the car is automatic. there is a security chip that goes in the port underneath the right side of the steering wheel you have to hold in the brake to turn car on, or have to have key in ignition to get out of gear. the chip goes in the place you can also diagnose your cars computer. any other ideas??? could it be a solenoid??? it sounds like the starter doesn't get power almost like there is a fuse or solenoid or something breaking the current...the last time i got the car to start up it did start up quicker but sluggish usually takes a couple turns to start that time it took 1....any ideas??

I have a very similar problem and need some help. I have a '91 coupe (DOHC) and everytime I turn the key all I get is a click from the starter and a click from the ignitor chip. I changed the starter thinking that's what it was but I'm getting the same problem with the different starter. I'm completely baffled as to what it could be, I'm thinking bad ground somewhere but if thats not it I'm probably just gonna give up and buy a new engine and start over. So please if anyone has any info I'd really appreciate it.

When was the last time the oil was checked?

Could also be a starter.

I've tapped the hell out of the starter and I don't have a problem with the starter. My problem might be that my engine is siezed, I have to try and turn my crankshaft by hand (which I haven't had a chance to do, plus the fan is totally in my way) but I haven't had time for it yet. Gophrsplatter try this as well, maybe (hope not) thats your problem as well.

Check the battery cable terminals for tightness and possible corrosion. Other possibilities may be the inhibitor switch or the ignition switch.

Sorry I tried to turn the crankshaft by hand and I just ended up almost lifting the whole engine so the engine is siezed and I've started pulling things out of the engine bay to get ready to put the new one in.

whoever put that top bolt in the starter for that car needs to be beaten to death with a spoon~! it took me 2 days to get off 1 bolt and there were only 2 holding it together....i hope the japanese get pleasure out of knowing i got my hand stuck 35 times and almost lost half my sockets!.....my best advice is never replace your own starter just pay a mechanic!!!!!!!
