Hey all,

I'm new to Nissan in everyway and wanted to get a collection of ideas for my new build. I just blew up my Integra and rather than rebuild it I decided to switch up to Nissan. I just bought a 93 240sx Convertible shell that just needs an engine and tires. So here is my question, I know SR20's are popular to sawp in but I was thinking of going RB26. I've got the shell and i've got an s15 SR20DET black top I can get for $3250 (which includes all engine/turbo equip, transmission, and ecu) or and $RB26DETT I can get for 3750(which includes all engine/turbo equip, hydralic transmission w/lsd, and ecu) both come with 90 day warranty and between 30k to 60k miles on the motor. Outside of motor cost i have about $4000 to put into install work as far as customization, or other things that I may want like rims or paint. So what do you think? SR or RB. Can anyone thats done an RB swap give me an idea of how much customization i would need to do? Or if SR is the way to go where should the extra $4000 go as far as good SR upgrades.

Thanks for any help or ideas you can offer.

Main thing would be time and money. When you say the RB26 includes transmission, is it the RB26 AWD transmission? If so unless you want to spend even more money to convert it to AWD, you'll need a RB25 transmission to mount to the RB26.

Visit the RB engine section of NICO to investigate RB options or SR section for the same.

Welcome.

im running an rb25.

you will need that $4000 for maintenance parts && swap required parts.customization? not so much.

clutchradiator & hosesFMIC...etc...

but like he said earlier, putting an Rb26 into an S chassis is a lot of $$work$$, and even more customization and labor if you are going to use the AWD transmission and system. Mating an Rb26 with an RB25 transmission is easier.

Either way, there is not a lot of room in the bay to work around things if you keep most of your accessories (power steering & AC)

like everyone else said, time and $$$. Sr would be the easiest swap to do.

Just waiting for coolwhip to chime in...

The general opinion is that an RB26 swap is going to run around $8k just to get it in the car. Check out the RB forum for more details on that.

You can get big hp from a RB25 for much less funds... Johnny is dead on with his post!

You can also get solid hp from an SR with the funds you have. That's a very easy install and an easy motor to own and maintain.

Finally.. consider an LS1 swap.... Check out the hybrid forum on NICO for info on that.

We stock RB26's and perhaps will save you some money...http://shop.rawbrokerage.com/p...d=227

I believe we are the only place that will seperate the AWD transmission from the motorset and give you credit towards a RB25 transmission.

List of parts for a RB26 swap:RB26DETT motorRB25DET Transmission and push type clutchMounting solution (either conversion mounts or crossmember swap)Conversion driveshaftConverted engine harnessFMIC with custom pipingConverted TachometerModified Oil Pan

If keeping bottom mount twins (stock or aftermarket)... you'll need a custom downpipe to clear the steering column.

That list is a rough spoon feeding of whats involved in getting the motor to be properly mounted in the car and turn key running.

For insurance like mentioned before... like any used engine (especially if you are spending this type of money on a swap) it's advisable...

General Maintence & engine prep - (spark plugs, fuel filter, belts, gaskets, filters, timing belt and related components, etc.)

Do this and you AND your engine will be happy.

If you are still up to the task, I can help you along the way as well provide you with ALL the above parts and know how.

Need some inspiraion or step through on a RB26 into a vert? zerothread?id=390042

The RB26 might be or might not be what you are looking for but thats for you to decide not us.

What I like to suggest to people when they ask "which engine to go with?" is...

figure you budget for such a swap as in how much you have to spend or willing to spend.

Figure the type of application you wish to use this car for (street, road, track, drift, drag, etc, etc, etc.)

research, research, research the engines you might potentially swap. much is uncovered in this step.

Make a grid, matrix, cost vs. benefit analysis, etc. etc. whatever fits your decision making process.

Determine what engine best fits your needs and budget.

Re-evaluate budget.

multiply by x2.

Then call me
