I saw a video of some guys starting a RB20DET sitting outside the car not installed. How can you do this? Is it possible to compression test if you can do this?

Does anyone know how I can do this? Thanks.

haha no one answer. And then someone will say search. Might as well not have a website, just a searching feature.

I'm not trying to be rude, but everytime I use the search, nothing comes up so I ask for help because I'm stupid and those that could help is obviously smarter. Then I get a smart a$$ remark like SEARCH. haha.. I find it funny but annoying.

The amount of time it took you to type use the search, you totally could have answer the question, unless you didn't k now how.

Thanks for reading.

if you have a front clip then all you need is a fuel pump, battery, and fluids (oil, coolant or water, gas, and clutch fluid... well no you wont need any clutch fluid) just hook the battery up, make sure there are no blown fuses, level the clip so you dont get any oil starvation, hook up a fuel pump, and start it up.if you dont have a front clip then itll be a little harder. youll need the engine/ecu harness, everything i said above, someway to level the engine out and hold it, and more.

if you're looking for compression, you don't need spark or fuel anyway, you've got a compression gauge in the spark plug area and last thing you want is fuel to destroy the seals in the gauge. just pop the starter onto a battery for a quickie and you'll get your numbers.

one thing i've noticed though is also people need to learn to spell in their searches or make the query more general. Not saying you've got those issues but just to give you the other perspective on it.

I use the search quite a bit. One aspect of a database search is that you have to start very broad and try different words or strings of words, and narrow it down from there.

As for the engine, yes you can do that, it was quite common years ago to do that to test engines, however with the engines of today and all the electronics on them, its not very practical.

wow thanks. I really appreciate your help!! I guess patient, spelling correctly and try different ways of writing it.

So the starter is on the motor, just hook it up to the battery? Is there a step to do this? Thanks a lot.

I asked because I figure if I can check the compression before installing the motor, and its good, I won't have to dish out money to buy new rebuild gasket set.

Thankss!!

hook up the starter to the battery for just a second. you'll see sparks but that's about it, you'll hear the engine crank and that's it.
