Hello,
I just bought a 1980 720 2 wheel drive. It only has 106,000 on it but it's in absolutely horrendous shape. I don't think they ever did a thing to maintain it.
I'm having some starting circuit problems - starter seems to engage sometimes when truck's already running, power to coil is intermittent, and other. I ordered the electrical part of the ignition switch and haven't picked it up yet. But now I'm worried that it could be a starter relay and think I should get that too, and just put it in to be safe. Anyone know where it is? How to order? I don't see a starter relay on Autozone's website but I think it has one - right? ( I bought a service manual on ebay but it hasn't arrived yet)
Any help would be most appreciated.
thanks much,
Scott

Im not sure if your 80 720 and my 84 720 have them in the same place, but its worth a shot...

This pic isnt of the relays in particular, but it shows the placement. There are two of them, one in front of the other, just above the fuze box. I cannot recall which is the ignition relay, and which is the auxiliary relay, pull one out then try to start. if it starts, then its the other one. I had my ignition relay go out about 8 months back and had to replace it, and I ordered it from a Napa Autoparts store. The guys there were able to look it up and get it sent in, only cost about 20 bucks or so if I remember correctly.
