There are a few years that no changes were made....so it's more of a S13 vs. S14 kinda thing IMO. I'd take the S13 from 91-94 just cause they have an external coil for ignition control and it way easier to add an MSD ignition.

i have a reman'd '95 (only brought back up to stock specs) engine in my car now, but it's only the block and heads... everything else (manifolds, electrical and all) are from the original car. so i have the newer cams with the newer head, which are less aggressive, but i have all the old electrical... i've driven every different ka24 out there (i'm serious... my first car was a '90 had the ka24e, then i had a 96 with a ka24de, now i have 2 s13's, one is an 89 with ka24e, and one is a 92 with 95 engine. the 90 and the 89 have the ka24e but i think different compression ratio... but i'm not sure really)... none of them ever felt anywhere near as good as my current car's engine... it's in really good shape so the thing feels great, and always has. when i put the turbo on it just felt better and better... so yeah lower miles/better shape is definitely the choice... i mean if you're talking about rebuilding it then i guess it's a different story, but the differences will be miniscule i'm sure... good tuning will ultimately be your biggest concern, not whether or not you have a few degrees difference on the cams.
