I just bought a 92 240sx automatic coupe with 108xxx. I was told that it needed a battery and the distributor to be timed and a head gasket. I was told the car had only been sitting for 3 weeks.

My plan was to get the car running so i can do a compression test and then replace the head gasket.

I went ahead and bought a new battery and the car cranks hard. I followed the guide here on how to time the distributor. I am getting spark on all the plugs. II can also feel the fuel line pressurize. I just can't get it to run...

Am I just not getting the timing right? Or is there something I am missing, like a blown fuse somewhere? I haven't pulled the injectors yet, could they be the source?

Latest after playing with the distributor...

Turned key and I heard a audible pop. Tried again got an softer pop. Pulled distributor rotor and rotated randomly. Turned key and I think it ignited low on the compression stoke. Basically sounded like it slowed the rotation down on the motor.

Will be back with more.

GOT IT STARTED!!!!

Took it for a spin. Slow on acceleration. Do it still need to adjust timing? Or is it just the gasket?

Might be a good idea to replace the timing chain if you're going that far with it and also check to see if the block or head mating surface have warped at all.

i don't want to remove the front cover this time. it would be a different story it i had the motor out and was doing a full rebuild. surfaces are within tolerance.

i was more wondering about any known issues or problems to fix a head of time. my 89s timing chain ate a hole through the coolant passage, i am so far unaware if the dohc has any similar problems
