What’s a good place to find info on the net for starting up a good workout routine for getting back in shape?

not that's I’m a fat arse but I just don't have much muscle as I used to when I was doing Tae kwon do and I miss the feeling of being in shape.

I got a little gym at home and want to do basic workouts on it. I’ve never used a gym before. I've always done exercise routines.

I’d like to include push-ups, sit-up, pull-up's running and some lifting.

I know some of you guys know this stuff so any help would be appreciated

My weight is 195lbs and I’m 6'1"

Thanks peeps.

I don't want to spend loot (class's) and I don't have stuff to kick. I want to try out this gym since it's there anyways.

or a man's martial art, Hapkido!:D

tae kwando with all the kicking, is good cardio though.

you really wanna get a workout though, try shootfighting. Using everybody part to gain an advantage will make you tired as hell quick.

Shoot fighting would be like UFC, and all those others I can't remeber. It's more grapple oriented. Ground and pound Ground and Pound!

Or I can shoot you while you are fighting......

I always recommend the Body for Life book. It worked for me (plus like 13 other people I suggested it to) and a good basis to begin eating and working out right. From there, you can modify to your liking, but it is best to have a proven sturdy base to begin with.

EDIT: I used to do kickboxing. Nothing I've tried since has been better in terms of toning. You should look into it. Pilates is another thing I did daily. I had a Winsor Pilates DVD and would work out in my own room. Great for your midsection. Low impact. And makes you very flexible which is always a plus for your sex life.

If you're looking to lose weight you need both cardio and weights. High intensity cardio (running, sprinting, elliptical) every other day and mod-low intensity (i.e. bike, walking, kickboxing). Lift HARD every other day or at least 3 days a week. Not everyday because your muscles need to rest. Check out those sites for weight lifting routines and form.

Your diet is a major part too. If you're gonna starve yourself or eat like crap, then you might as well not begin because you'll gain all the weight back anyway. You have to eat well. 5 small meals a day LOADED with protein and raw, green veggies. No soda, no candy, no unneccesary carbs and sugar because that turns to fat since your body doesn't need it.

I'd also advise joining a gym. Nothing motivates me more than working out in a building filled with hot ripped guys and girls with cute tushes. Then sooner or later, you realize you're one of them. :)

Good luck. Feel free to hit me up for more specific questions but if you read up on those sites I suggested, you should be all set.

Hopefully this doesnt sound too funny, but I too second the benefits of yoga and pilates. I dont want to sound like a hippy, but it really works.

I used to work out, looked good and was in great shape. But one pilates tape with a really hot hippy chick I was dating killed me. You dont know how hard this stuff is, and the benefits of it.

I suggest you workout like in the body for like, and on leg days or twice a week, incorporate a very intense Pilates training. This will help in the flexibility, and also work out all those important musces that are overlooked when you work out the sex appeal ones.

Thanks Viki, I almost forgot an important part of what made a difference to me.

http://www.exrx.net is also a great site.

Yeah 180crafter (sorry I don't know your name), a lot of guys refuse to do pilates or yoga because "it's for girls and it's gay" but it's actually a lot harder than most would think. I tend to bulk up a bit when I lift often and my leg muscles get kinda diesel when I run daily so Pilates helped to keep them lean and lengthen them out. Anyway, I am giving all this advice and I haven't been to the gym in a week. BAD Vicki. :( I need motivation.

Pregnancy is hard too, but its still pretty gay.

Kickboxing is pretty easy to learn. Sure, you might not ever be good at it without professional training, but its a great workout.

I know... My freinds all laugh. Lets just say I could never get cought doing that stuff, or I would never hear the end of it. But Pilates is VERY hard, coupled with the fack that I have NO balance and NO coordination, makes it a very good training for me. When I was doing it, I did notice a huge increase in my flexibily, movement, and balance. Not only that, but it does lengthen the muscle, giving it more room to grow and not bunch up into little Balls.

Dont feel bad. Started a new job 10 months ago and dont have a car, so my steady routine has gone out of the window. But I do start a new schedule soon and hope to have my car done, so everything should fall into place again.

Oh, and the name is Ricky. Or Rick. Or Ricardo. But 180crafter works ok too.

Nice to meet you Rick.

Another awesome thing is when you see these huge football players in your dance classes. I took Dance of Eastern Europe last semester (folk dancing) and there were a couple of them in my class. And even they struggled to keep up. Not in terms of form but some of the dances were awesome cardio work outs.

I'm taking ballet this fall and I bet that won't be nearly as fun. :(

what shoot fighting is, is a grappling style, the shoot being shooting in for the takedown.

with the resurgence in popularity UFC is getting in this country, you could probably find a school that offers training in the methods. It really just blends a lot of styles and techniques, you won't see a whole lot of kicking though, being it's pretty hard to use kicks effectively in most contests. There's some guys that can though, and they kick HARD.

Dance doth be hard...you could always take gymnastics. Very good thing really, it'll give you balance, flexibility, agility and make you pretty damn limber.
