Ok my HP goal for this is going to be around 300-400HP. I want something with a 9.1 compression, that way it still has good power before the turbo. So what pistons would be good to go with for that kind of cr? And i'm going to be getting the best of the best parts, I want to do this right the first time and get good strong quality parts. Another thing, is there a kit i could buy that came with the pistons, piston rings, connecting rods, bearings and crank? If there is, i'd like to know where i could get those too, cause it would probably be cheaper to buy one hole kit, rather than one peice at a time.

Also, do they make an aftermarket free flowing head for the KA24DE, or will i have to send my head in to get done? I know the head is already pretty free flowing, but it could be better. And is there a better timing belt i could get? Any help you guys can give me would be awesome, i wanna start buying my parts, so then i can get my motor, tear it down, send in the block and head and get all the goodies done, build it back up, then save a couple grand for a turbo kit!

Okay we get questions like this all the time, so I'll just give you some brief information and you can suppliment that with a healthy dose of searching, k?

-When you decide to go KA-T, set a MONEY budget first, and then figure out what power goals you can reach. I know it sounds silly but this is probably one of the most important things to figure out before diving into the KA.

-In general, forged pistons are forged pistons. Find a brand you like (arias, ross, weisco, supertech, whatever) that has the CR and overbore (usually .020") that you want and there you go.

-There are a few package deals you can buy with internals. I know for a fact one of our sponsors, turbo240 (www.turbo240.com) offers various levels of rebuild kits. Avoid at all costs the Topline kits offered at various other websites.

-There is no such thing as an aftermarket crankshaft for the KA at the molment. Nor is it necessary.

-Aftermarket, complete heads can probably be found somewhere- but it really doesnt make sense when you can just take your current head to a machine shop and have whatever port + polish work you can afford done. Current thought is that the intake manifold offers more of an airflow restriction than the head, anyways.

-The KA uses a double row timing chain, not a belt. Replacement of this part is purely for wear reasons (if necessary at all), not for performance.

-Careful about buying parts bit by bit and doing things in stages. Things get expensive quick, I think its more advisable to save up and try to do everything at once. You can save money by making large purchases at a single store, and you save yourself the risk of losing interest or slowly getting over your head with the money.

Good luck with your project Slickster. PLEASE remember to search our KA-T forums and look through the stickied threads. There seems to be a lot you need to learn- the information is all here.

I checked out turbo240.com and there is alot of good stuff there. I see they have a KA24DE short block that they built they sell on there. Would that be a good block to go with? Has anyone bought anything from them, or is it all new? I've been looking around on the KA-T forums and reading a few things. I've searched a couple things also, i just like getting straight forward awnsers, i'm slow like thgat i guess lol. anyway, thanks for your reply, it was helpful. I have a friend that is going to be helping my with my build, and i know a couple other people with experience in the KA around me. I just want to get started and have something to work on.

I cant think of a member that has the turbo240 built block. But they have a great rep, and I wouldnt hesitate to talk to them and get one of their motors. They are kinda expensive, but probably worth the premium over other builders.
