Hello Everyone,

I have a 1991 240sx se Automatic. When i start my car cold, everything is fine..But if i drive the car for a bit, when i try to start the car,I get nothing. The starter doesn't try to crank.

I think I hear the relays, trip. But i don't think i hear the selenoid clicking.

After a couple of hours, the car will start again.

I'm thinking of taking off the starter, but I can only find one of the bolts. The one that I can see is the one under the selenoid, that must be taked offfrom the rear.

I can't see or feel the other one?Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I read the other forums, but I can't seem to find all the answers.

Such as which relay am I looking for. I didn't see anything that was labeled the starter relay. Is it the EGI relay or the IGN SW fuse link that i have to check.

Thanks in advance.

This is usually a pretty good indication that the starter is worn out.

As far as where the bolts are located. I can't remember if there are two or three, but they will be right by the starter. I think two of them are actually on the opposite side of the bellhousing, but that may have been a different car.

You could actually take the car to autozone and they can test the starter on the car for you. They should have a ammeter that clips directly over the wires. If the starter is bad you will get a large current draw, but the motor will not turn over. If you get no current draw, then either the solenoid is bad or something further back is bad. The way to check that would be to see if you are getting positive power at the small wire at the starter.

Thanks yellow_jacket.

I wasn't sure if they would detect anything if the car starts fine cold vs. when it isn't starting hot.

I'll give it a go.

My starter is 14years old and has 180K+ miles on it.

Do you or anyone else know, what is the best brand of remanufactured starters. Or which one the dealers sell.Bosch, Deno, etc...
