starter wiring , im confused

ok i know the positive battery terminal . goes directly to one post of the starter , but where does the negative post of the starter wire to . directly to the negative battery terminal , and also the third smaller wire , where does it splice into . if someone can give me colors and locations of the wires all be fine , iver been staring at theese wires for what seems like forever for now , someone please tell me what goes to what on the starter and what wires go where , and also the thickness of the wires will help too , im sorry im an idiot but im lost

there is no negative post on the starter, it grounds through the engine block.

You have a large post(direct feed form the battery) and a small spade connector(trigger from key)
