Hi, I have a 93 240sx its all stock and this morning i tried to start my car and the starter did not disengage after failing to start the engine. I put the starter in last month and i put a new ignition switch and lock assembly on a few weeks ago. The battery is new and i put a new negative cable on last week and today i had the starter tested and they said it was fine. It happened a few weeks ago so i disconnected the negative and put it back on and the starter was fine but this time as soon at the negative cable touches the battery it starts spinning without the key in the ignition. I am lost I dont know what else to try if u guys have any suggestions please let me know this is the car i take to work. Thanks so much

My 97 200sx se-r did the same thing 2 weeks after i installed a brand new starter it did it twice so i left it unhooked for a half an hour and hooked the negative back up again and it was fine then it did it a third tima then i just returned it got another starter and its been fine ever since! Sometimes the solinoids are stupid in some manufacture starters hope that helps you out man!

humm..you may have the (Bendix) part on your starter ready to lock or it has lockd up..its the part that pops out and makes contact with the flyweel to start the car...sometimes..taping the starter with a soft hammer will free it up..but you may have to have it rebuilt or replaced

your problem doesn't really sound like a problem with the starter to me, because the starter won't move unless power is getting to it. If it starts spinning as soon as you hook up the battery but without the key in, that means it's getting 12v at all times.

Sounds more like a short to the battery rather than a problem with the starter itself. I'd check the relay it runs on, sometimes those can get stuck closed, which would mean as soon as the car has a 12V circuit, so does the starter.

Should say on the cover under the hood on the cap and the easiest way to test it is swap it with another relay just like it and see if that component works right and vise versa and if thats all good then you might want to invest in another starter or take back the one you got and tell them to give you another one due to manufacture defect

Hey guys I'm sorry to bump a super old thread but I'm stumped on my starter problem. I have a 97 240sx with a redtop sr20 in it. I've been trying to figure out why it won't crank over. Then I noticed the clutch inter lock switch on the back of the clutch pedal is completely missing and I can't find the wires that go to it.
so I jumped the clutch interlock relay since the switch was missing and I read online to jump pin one and two but if I do that the wires get really hot and start to melt. So I tried three and five and the starter works. But it seems like the starter doesn't disengage.. and this my second starter. It's a mishimoto factory replacement I bought used. It tested good at ad vance auto. Just seeing if anyone has any helpful input..
