My starter on my sr died so I pulled the starter off of my old ka24e to swap the internals out. All i need to swap is the 4 brushes that spin around and the solenoid right? Anyways i tried that but it seems like the part with the brushes wont line up right. There is no where for the two long 8mm screws to pass through. Should I buy a new de starter or is there another version of the ka24e starter that i need?

You need a Hitachi KA starter. The Mitsubishi unit won't work.

Not sure, but i ended up just going to napa auto parts and getting a refurbished starter for the sohc. It didnt have any stickers on it to indicate if it was hitashi or not but it worked fine. Just undid the 2 8mm screws and just switched the blk/gold body parts with the ones on the sr starter.

Hitachi's came on both SOHC and DOHC. the difference is the DOHC had a Hitachi and a Mitsubishi option where as the SOHC only had the hitachi.

Since this thread is still active i have another quick question. Sometimes when i try to start my car the starter makes a funny noise but not a clicking noise. It sounds like things are turning inside but maybe something is not engaging. Im thinking maybe I didn't put enough grease on everything inside. Any suggestions?

wait what? from the starter or something elce. If u hear the starter spin up and the car does not crank then there is that gear that shoots out to the flywheel to turn it if it isnt shooting out and spinning then theres a prblem with the starter... wired up wrong maybe

I think the noise comes from the starter..Maybe I will post up a video of it today. It doesnt make it all the time so thats why I assumed maybe that I just didnt use enough grease. I will double check my starter though.
