so its 1:10 am as i walk out of the theater after work. hop in my car.....yay!!!!! just a damn click. car wont turn over.

i try numerous times, because this has worked before. no dice AT ALL. i definately heard the clicking, and radio/lights still worked, so i knew it wasnt the battery.

ran inside and grabbed a small broom and a flashlight to see what i could do. after lookin around/tracing the 'click' i finally found the starter. i beat the fuk out of it a few times to see if that would help, but it still wouldnt start. lucky as hell for me, a friend drove by who was in the shoppin center and asked what was up. i got him to crank it once, just to be sure i was lookin at the starter. when he did this, i noticed a spark right where the wire connects to the front of the starter. hit it one more time, and it decided to start.

is the spark evil? or is it supposed to do it?

also, how much should i expect to spend for a new starter if its bad? it clicked every time when i tried to crank it, but it just wouldnt start.

btw, being pissed about almost being stuck at work at 1am, i decided to come home and grab some beers from the garage. so this might not make as much sense as it should

The lead is loose, tighten it up.

Might want to unplug the battery first too.

Plus you don't need a starter for a 5-speed, push the car in neutral ... jump back in it while it's still moving and push clutch in, put in 1st gear (2nd if you are moving fast), and turn the ignition key while you pop the clutch.

Voila ... instant running car
