I just recently purchased a 1992 nissan 240sx with the ka24de. It is a major project thats for sure. I went to start it the other day and i would turn the key and the lights would not turn on or anything. I kept trying and after a while the lights came on and the car started with hesitation. i kept shutting it off and it would start right back up. I went out tonight to try and start it up and nothing. After a while of messing with it.. the lights will light up... it will click once when i try to start it.. and nothing. then no lights or anything. all of the connections seem tight. I was thinking this may be a starter or a starter relay issue?... but any input would be appreciated

try hitting your starter [ with hammer ] slightly. not hard./.

then go try it . if it does start after you hit it then its definitely bad..

and after trying that i would take it off and take it to autozone and have them check it. they test it FREE!!!

good luck

Alright. I will have to try this soon. IDK when ill get time to take it off, but im 99.9% sure the starter is bad. so i will try the hammer trick. Hopefully this is all it needs. If the starter is shot, shouldnt the interior lights and stuff still light up though?.. or still no?

if interior lights don't turn on that would be a battery issue...

nothing to do with the starter, other than the starter starting car to help alternator charge battery..

but if your battery is well charged and lights dont go on that may just be a wiring issue. but also double check your interior bulbs lol

I just sit there and turn the key back and forth.. sometimes the lights come on and the car will make one click when starting. then other times the lights will not come on and no clicking. If it is wiring, if i were to buy the sr20det with a new harness.. do you think this would fix the problem?

Double check your battery terminals. You wouldn't believe how many cars get towed in my shop with just that problem.

I checked the wires a little more closely. The negative wire was shorting it all out. Replaced it and starts everytime!... now just to fix the brakes!
