pull it off and take it to autozone, they bench test starters and alternators for free. then you will know for sure.

is it possible for the transmission to maybe be misaligned and the starters not catchin the flywheel?

yea i bench tested it myself with my shop teacher, watched everything work and even had it tested at autozone. im totally stumped about wat it could be. maybe a loose connection somewhere? or something binding up? idk

the wrong starter can be like that. not sure if a weak connection or battery would produce those symptoms. you can ground the starter directly to engine. but not sure if any of this would cause your symptoms. if you have your starter off for awhile the interface will rust and you lose your ground.

well its the same starter that was in it before when it ran, same flywheel too. is it possible to have too much compression in the cylinders? i pulled all the plugs out and cranked it and it turned fine. really appreciate all the help btw

i had a lot of starter problems, turned out that a voltage drop fom the battery in the trunk to the front of the car damaged the starter connections inside, so i had the starter rebuilt. then the starter relay near the passenger headlight was faulty, so i replaced that too. you definitely need to diagnose it though. btw autozone doesnt do too good of a job testing parts.

would the voltage drop cause it to squeal? well i tested the starter multiple times with several people including myself and yea i kno wat u mean autozones not the greatest the guy didnt kno s*** haha. but i mean the motor turns fine without the plugs in but then as soon as i put one in it binds up this mite sound kinda stupid but could a bad pilot bearing cause this?

yea my SR starter squealed and howled horribly! it was the bearing or something inside the starter. had it rebuilt by a local shop and it was fine. but problems came back because of my voltage issues

the mechanism that engages the starter gear to flywheel can go. i think that is the pilot bearing?

i wish i could put pictures up but i always thought the pilot bearing was where the input shaft of the transmission goes. it's rite in the center of the flywheel and goes into the block. if u search it on google images u can see its just this little ring that sits in the motor.

but now ive had some ideas of it maybe being the main bearings but i really dont kno. this cars just been a nightmare since i pulled the motor haha
