I had to replace the starter on my 95 240sx last week. It would not do anything on the car but it would function when attached to a large snap-on battery charger. Reinstalled it on the car and it started the car one time and then went back to no function. I got a Bosch rebuild from pep boys for $139 and so far, so good.

If you can afford it, get a starter from dealer

Denso released their OE-identical starters to the aftermarket, so now you can buy them at a fraction of the dealer cost, check out densoproducts.com

It's about the same price. I bought mine for $200, but they refunded $50+tax back in exahange for my old starter, so i paid about 155 i think. But what model car are we talking about in this thread? I drive a 93 240sx hatch manual. If it's not a 240 then the price probably is different.
