Hey guys-

so my car always screams when I start it: very much like when a car is running and you turn the ignition.

My buddy is in my car one day and he does a full body shiver from the sound, he is kind of a retard

So he tells me you gotta get a new starter. I take the car to the mechanic and he puts a new one in.

Car now has a new starter but still makes the same noise! talked to the mechanic he said its a funny design and you can't shim it, so is he full of it or right?

Also yesterday I went to start the car and it only made that screamin sound and would not start, I usually wait and then try it again and it starts.

Oh yeah the mechanic said maybe I got a bad starter. Why the hell would the old one and the new one make the same noises?

Thanks for readin

Nick

Could be a bad starter like he said, and yes, you can shim the starter. You usually do that when you go to a twin turbo from a N/A. Just because the flywheel is a bit bigger.

I honestly would take the starter off and look at the flywheel or pressure plate if you have an auto. Look at the teeth and make sure non are wore down where it can slip or not make a good connection. Turn the engine by hand and look at the whole wheel, not just the little section that is showing.

Where did you get the starter?

I agree ^^ check the flywheel for bad/broken teeth.

Mine did it recently after getting my transmission rebuilt. The shop played the "it was like that before" card. Now my transmission is shifting in/out of lockup. I think I'm going to be calling them and requesting something be done about it, even if they aren't local.

As far as the starter problem goes, there's a few people on here that had it happen immediately following someone else servicing the clutch/transmission.
