Greetings Everyone,

I searched your site but could not find an answer so I am posting. I hope I did not over look a thread and also, I am posting in the correct location.

My daughter has a 94 240SX and her starter is bad. I was looking at this and cannot find a way to access the other bolt. Do I have to remove/drop the transmission (auto) to gain access? Am I missing something?

I want to get this fixed so we can sell it and buy her something else hopefully before Christmas so any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

no need to remove anything, you should be able to access the bottom bolt from below and the top bolt from under the hood.

Thanks for your reply Moso. I will take another look but I do not see it from below. Earlier today I found a Chilton's manual and they say to remove the 4 rear bolts on transmission and dipstick (provide support to transmission) to gain access to bottom bolt.

May be a lillte tighter fit with the AT dipstick, may want to remove that. Basically just feel around when under there you should be able to find it. Rachet wrenches are the best bet for removal, but may be tough to break loose if they've never been removed.

"I Survived A Starter Replacement"! Not for the impatient, or all thumbs do-it yur-selfer...And yes, remove the AT dipstick tube, get the rachet knuckle. I lost a 15mm socket on top of my transmission too!
