so my starter or smthin makes a screeching sound instead of turning the engine over sometimes. and it happens at the worst possible times. like after stalling on giant hill thanks to jumping in and out of 20 different cars. it just wont start just screams at me.so before i lay out under the thing in the cold what could be the problem?i found where to get starters and stuff but couldnt find anything like this..

your starter LIKELY isnt fully engauging and only going part way. Thus you get that lovely grinding nose instead of full engauging and grabbing the flywheel.

teeth on the flywheel or the starter are also being damaged each time it makes that sound.

btw it not fully engauging means it ISNT WORKING.

I don't know if you're up to it, but pull the starter apart and try cleaning it. Sometimes grease can get on the contact points. Its not hard to pull it apart its just a couple screws at the back and it'll pull apart. Wipe any grease off and take a fine grit sand paper to all the copper parts, it should help.
