starter problem

since i had my z for about a year every month or 2 for like a couple days straight i will turn my key and my car make this powerdrill noise and doesnt start until i wait a few seconds and try once maybe twice more, but then it will start perfectly for weeks without doing this... what could this be??

does the motor turn over or it just makes a weird noise then doesn't turn over. If its not turning over at all and just making a noise Id say the issue is with the starter.

it doesnt turn over just makes the "powerdrill" noise and thats it. but how come it only acts up every once inawhile??

Means your starter is going out. The motor is rotating, but the solenoid isn't engaging the gear with the flywheel. New starter is the only fix. Next time it does this, you can try to hit it with a wrench or hammer or something. It'll dislodge the stuck solenoid. Just a band aid though.

Also, gonna move this to tech.

Yeah, learned that working on my dad's old '80s Bronco II. Used it many a time to get to the parts store since then.

Thanks guys. So its not the wireing to the starter? I was thinking sonething was maybe lose and thats why it only did it sometimes.
