I am chasing the same problem. I recently removed the wires from the battery and from my starter. After checking everything out I hooked it up and everything is working for the time being. This makes no sense to me unless I made a better connection to my starter.Mine is an automatic so I know its not a clutch interlock. I used the search key and found a thread that says its the starter. When it just clicks once its the starter starting to go. You can buy a new one at autozone for roughly 125$ or have it rebuilt for 90$.
