Well lets see were to start. i have a 91 240sx and i have just put a engine in (ka24de) and well it wont start. i got the engine in fine and it started up a few times now it just clicks. when i turn the ingnition i just get a single click. i have a new battery and i had the started tested and everything checks out. so here i am i got on here looking for help and i found a thread talking about the samething and they found a solution by cleaning where the cables connect and i did this. i also had a battery relocation kit in my car today i re relocated it back under the hood. Still just a click i had a friend hook up some cables and tried to jump it off and all i get is click still, and i know that it is the starter solenoid that is clicking not a relay. i really cant think of anything else to do. can someone help me?

Power cable on the starter. It's messed up either connection or something. Simple as that.Take a jumper cable one ot batteyr positive, 1 to positive to the starter see what happens.

i looked through the tutorial in your sig and i have also tried the direct 12v to the power on the starter. the gear shot out and went directly back in and would not come back out. i used the ignition switch in my car rather than bypassing it, i figured that isnt the issue since we make it as far as the clicking. i am considering buying new battery cables and terminals because the battery is brand new, starter tests fine at napa, and i have relocated the battery back to the front of the car so cables seem to be the last step

The starter solenoid is most likely bad.

check the second positive that goes to starter. its continuous 12v+. large wire. your starter wont spin without this wire. are you sure you have the right starter for your car?

i do have the right starter for my car. there is a power cable running from my battery to the starter and the second connector coming out of the starter hooks up to another plug which i am guessing is the ignition switch. I have the connector going to my ignition switch hooked up and i used a friends battery and connected it to the starter when i turn the key the gear shot out and shot back in really fast one time. I could not get it to come back out a second time.

ok, i misunderstood. hook up your friends battery to the ignition wire. the wire that unplugs. then, try with it hooked up to the big positive at the solenoid. then , with your friends battery hooked to both. make sure the plastic red connector at positive of battery is plugged in.

the connection to ignition wire is only for few seconds or you will destroy starter. dont connect to anywhere else other than solenoid.

specifically, where did you connect your friends battery to?

I know that people connect the 12v+ somewhere and that causes the starter motor to spin. I would guess that you connected to the starter motor and got no spinning which would mean your starter motor is shot. hit the starter motor with hammer to see if it starts.

theres probably something wrong with the starter motor. maybe you burnt it out while troubleshooting.

the other possibility is weak ground. look up ground in tutorial link in my signature.

maybe you damaged the wire going from solenoid to starter. you should be able to hear the starter spin when you supply 12v to starter.
