Did you check the fuses under the hood as well as under the dash? I checked my notes from when I installed my remote start system, and I don't see a black/yellow wire in those notes... what does the wire you cut do? What was the other side of your pushbutton switch connected to - ground or 12V?

First you have a beautiful Q45 with a ORIGINAL key case so why would you want to ruin it by installing a starter button? Honestly I used to think much differently than I do now (Wanting a grill for the Q45, making it meaner, Using Z-Max...)

Did the starter button come as a kit?

Did it come with instructions that you can post up?

I see nothing in the service manual that has to do with the ignition switch that is Black with a Yellow stripe so:

What led you to cut the Black wire with a yellow stripe?

Slide a heat shrink wrap over the wire then re-solder and heat the wrap.

Well honestly your supposed to spend HOURS and HOURS reading the service manual or at least the part you are working on.

What kind of start button did you use?

Try putting the key in the door(s) (two front one) or the trunk. If the problem is fixed then good if not then we have to look elsewhere.

Where does the wire lead to (Black with a yellow stripe)?

Where do you plan to mount the start button?

What prevents people from breaking the window unlocking the door and starting the car?

the wire leads to the ignition where you put the key. i gave up on the button now and i would have had to put the key in the on position in order to use the button which came with no instructions(dumb idea wanting one on my part). ill try the door tommorow and let you know from there

Like I said before either do the research or have someone that knows what there doing to install what you want. Hate to be an a** but you got to learn.

If you still want to install it check this out: http://www.the12volt.com/installbay/ala ... /1128.html.

But honestly do a good job when doing it.

I am using Machine Grade Wire and a much higher gauge (AWG) than OEM. Its sad that the Nissan used some tooth pick thin wire. Maybe I am paranoid since I had two recent electrical problems though. (10 AWG grounds and 11-14 AWG wires for the rest for a keyless entry system. :lolling:).

Why not just wire it up with Romex (used in houses)! Keep in mind that larger wires can flow more current, but also offer larger resistance... so you want an appropriately sized wire.

Or did you just cut the wire and connect one side to one pole of the switch and one to the other? In any case I feel sure your problem is with the theft warning system, since this is the wire that feeds the starter relay through the theft warning relay. I would definitely double check your fuses.

Phew you almost scared me: http://www.dur.ac.uk/p.m.johnson/electr ... ckness.htm

I will be using 14 AWG for power and 10 AWG for ground.

Sorry for thread jack.

Didn't you try to take the key out when you first called it a night?

The key came out with the transmission in anything other than Park?

If so you have a problem with the Shift Lock System.

Why would you use different size wire for positive and the ground?????? Think of it as a circuit with power flowing in and out of the load and you will see it makes sense to use the same size wire coming in and going out.

I understand what your saying and many do refer to electricity as water in a pipe. But I spoke with many car audio/alarm shops before I under took this project and most said to use a bigger smaller ground wire if I can. There reasoning was that the wires i need to run to the sensors, solenoids and control units can "Only be so large". It needs to handle the electrical load while still being small so 14 AWG seemed the safest since the biggest fuse for the system is 10 AMP's and the wires handle 15 AMP, its logical to think the fuse will blow before the wire heats up. And as seen from my posts about the power window fuse (25 AMP) blowing, that was my main concern.

Some say to use the same gauge others say to use a bigger gauge ground. As long its the same size or bigger it doesn't matter right?

What could happen with a bigger ground VS power wires?

Again the power wires are 14 AWG and the ground is 10 AWG.

Nothing "bad"will happen with a ground wire bigger than the positive wire, it just doesnt really accomplish anything except add cost and the wire is bigger/stiffer and harder to run/work with.

Not to worry there because the wire will only be a foot long MAX!

And as far as I know the OEM J30 wiring has grounds that are many feet longer and no where near the control unit. I am no electrical engineer but I hope this means the keyless entry will work better.
