Starter Noise.I30 what to do?

2000 I-30.Starter makes grinding noise upon startup for about half a second.I know it will go out eventually because I had another 2000 I-30 with the same problem for about a year before it went out.How can I prolong life of starter.Can I just change solenoid and fix issue?

Take it out, disassemble and lubricate internal components (lithium grease). It should help. Not that complicated as only few bolts/screws involved.

While I in the parts store with my starter I asked a guy who looked like a real mechanic about starters.

He said mine probably grinded (like yours) because a spring inside was weak which withdrew the bendex (starter gear)from the flywheel.

it happened on my i30t and i just didn't let it bother me...it never failed and saved me money on a new starter - but if it starts failing, get a new one.
