93 Q45

My car sounded like the battery was dying for the longest time, and now it won't start at all. There is electrical power to the vehicle and the battery tests good with multimeter. I can hear the solenoid of the starter clicking but it doesn't turn over. Did the starter lock up? Was the car sounding like the battery was going dead because the bearing in the starter was becoming stiffer and stiffer? I just wanted to check before I remove and replace it.

Thanks in advance.

you are probably going to need a new starter... Wack it with a hammer and see if it makes it work.

Whacking it with a hammer fixed the problem temporarily. Thanks for that. However, sure as I crap if I start driving it around again it'll act up.

This thing is in a b**** of a spot. To make matters worse, the car has been lowered and there's all kinds of crap in the way. Is replacing the starter as hard as it looks? Is there anyone in the Denver metro area that I could pay direct cash to replace it for me? I'd like to avoid a mechanic's shop if possible.

Takes a competent certified TECHNICAN about 20-25 minutes [book charge for avg tech is 2 hours] to swap once on the lift with belly pan off............with a bathroom break. Timed on my lowered 90 Q a few years ago.

Since the "poundometer" (not hammer, the poundometer is a precision adjustment tool) fixed the issue for the time being, that means theres a worn spot in the armature. I would avoid starting the car, because it will only get worse.
