starter keeps shorting out

alright so the other day im sitting at a red light and loose all power...so i push it off the road and see that my 30amp ingition fuseable link is blown tryd another fuse and it blew it as soon as i turnd the key to where it would start the car....i took a volt meter traced the short down to my starter. changed it out put new fuses in and drove bout three blocks and lost all power again!!!! what would cause the starter to short out like this?..what wires should i be checking for shorts.. its a 89 sohc

one of the two braces for the intake manifold probably lost a bolt, came loose and is touching the lead, this happened to me before as well. the braces are black chunks of steel that go from the block to the intake manifold. check it.

i looked around and there isnt anything touching the starter that could cause a short...so does that mean it has to be on the ground of the starter?

its most likely the power wire is getting touch to a ground/body of the starter or the wire is exposed to were when the engine moves/vibrates it touch something and cause you to blow a fuse
