Starter keeps going after I turn off car...

I replaced my starter yesterday and so far it was going good until today. I turned off my car for about 2 minutes. I turned it back on and my starter turned on but not my motor. It sounded like a freakin' vacuum cleaner. The starter turned off 2 minutes later and when I started my car again the motor started. What is the problem with these symptoms?

So the starter stays on for a full 2 minutes?

well for about 1 minute, right before i was gonna disconnect the battery it just turned off.

well today at the gas station after i pumped some gas, my starter started running but my motor wasn't. I popped the hood about 2 minutes later thinking it was gonna go away but the starter was actually smoking. I just loosened the bolt for the battery terminal just to see the results. Any ideas of what you guys think it might be?

bad starter solenoid or electric issues.have the starter checked at a local Autozone or pepboys.

Short or failed solenoid. Knowing what I do about the placement, it seems pretty clear to be a bad solenoid.
