alright heres the problem im having.

had to take out my (sr redtop) transmission because of a shifting problem, fixed it and put it back in. hooked everything back up...go to start the car, and all i hear is the starter solenoid click once, and then nothing. took the starter and the battery to advance auto, had them tested. battery is fine, and the started is decent..but the bearings are startin to go. cleaned up the connections and even replaced the connection for the tab on the solenoid itself. threw is back together, and still the same problem. I recently relocated the battery to the trunk, so i redid the ground and made sure that was good, and checked all the other wiring..but still havent come up with anything.

maybe it could be the ground on the starter itself, being dirty, etc?

any ideas would really be appreciated:)

I have the same problem. There might be bad spots on the commutator for the starter. Try tapping it with a rubber mallet. If the starter is rotated and is resting on one of the bad spots, jolting it might be enough to get it turning. I have had to push start my car for the past couple of days because I have been too lazy to replace it. Ah well, it isn't a very long job, I should do it today.

Yeah. turning the key at the same time is the easiest way of doing it. If that starts it, then you can be pretty certain that either your brushes or your commutator are going bad. Especially since you are hearing the clicking, that means the solenoid is still functioning to some extent.
